The power of unity. The power of Shabbat.

The Shabbat Project is a global grassroots movement uniting Jews of all backgrounds and levels of observance to experience one full Shabbat together in unity.
Launched in South Africa in 2013, it has grown to over 1,500 cities in 100 countries, driven by a team of dedicated volunteers.
This year's Shabbat Project takes place on the Shabbat of 15/16 November 2024 – Parshat Vayeira, where young and old, Jews of all backgrounds, levels of knowledge and observance, will embrace the power of Shabbat as an opportunity to unite and transcend the differences that at times seem to divide us.
Shabbat, is a God-given gift, is more than just one day of rest; it's about community, connection, pride, shared values, and creating a vibrant Jewish identity and future.
In a world of increasing challenges, the Shabbat Project seeks to bring as many Jews as possible through the experience of keeping a complete, authentic Shabbos, from sunset to stars out, the way generations of Jews have kept it for thousands of years.

Now, more than ever, we need the blessings and power of Shabbat to strengthen Jewish pride, unity, and resilience.

We’ve Kept Shabbat. Here’s the Impact.

The Shabbat Project began in 2013 as the vision of South Africa’s Chief Rabbi, Dr. Warren Goldstein, with a mission to unite the South African Jewish community.
The project exploded with hundreds of women united together to bake challah in the streets, thousands joining outdoor Shabbat dinners, and observing Shabbat in its entirety for the first time in their lives.

In 2014, passionate volunteers helped turn the project into a global movement, with millions participating.

From Swaziland’s entire Jewish community, comprising 18 families, gathering for a communal Shabbat meal at someone’s home, endeavoring to keep Shabbat in full to Abir Schweizer, one of a handful of Jews living in Conway, Arkansas who finally felt part of a “global Jewish family” keeping it together – that “you can never feel alone on a Shabbos like this.”, the impact of a decade of the Shabbat Project is immeasurable.

After the horrific attacks of 7 October, Jews across Israel found comfort and strength in the Shabbat Project, coming together in unity and resilience.

As the Shabbat Project enters its second decade since going global, it continues to inspire and unite communities worldwide, and the impact continues.
