Shabbat is the Divine gift we need to thrive in today’s frenzied world. Shabbat is a weekly opportunity from our Creator to improve our quality of life, to be happier and more fulfilled as individuals, and to nurture our precious relationships.
It gives us the time and space to breathe, strengthen our faith and our family, and find meaning and purpose, creating a home environment that will inspire our children to opt into a Jewish future.
The practical aspects of the day – what we do and refrain from doing – create an immersive, uniquely enriching experience.
The restrictions paradoxically liberate us, creating a space we fill with meaningful moments. Amidst the challenges of the 21st century, keeping Shabbat in accordance with its original Divine formula brings us joy, meaning and connection.

Shabbat rejuvenates our faith in God, restore Jewish pride and identity, and strengthen Jewish unity across the globe.

Stories of Hope from Israel - Shabbat Project 2023

Ashkelon Residents Venture out for Challah Bake
Due to security concerns, all events in Ashkelon were canceled except for a small-scale challah bake. This event marked the first time many of the women had left their homes since the crisis began. They prayed together, made challah, and took a breath of fresh air, finding joy and community in the process.

The knowledge that Jewish men and women worldwide were also celebrating Shabbat and praying for those in distress brought them considerable strength, despite the constant threat of rockets.
Joy in the streets of Pardes Hana
In Pardes Hana in the north of Israel, in honor of the Shabbat Project, there was joyous celebrations in the streets that drew crowds of passersby with street musicians, Shabbat songs. Volunteers handed out Shabbat kits in honor of Shabbat, which included blue and white balloons, Shabbat candles, and a prayer for the safety of the soldiers, the healing of the wounded, and the return of the captives.

One emotional particpant shared in tears that she was an evacuee from Ashkelon which was under attack, and that the singing, the prayers, and the joyous atmosphere in the streets was so powerful for her, and helped her understand - and feel - that we all are brothers and sisters.
